MTA
is planning an Exposition Blvd. rail line that will run 225-ton trains at
speeds up to 55 mph, every 5 minutes in both directions from 4
am to 2 am at street level.
A street level Expo
Rail Line puts our children in grave
danger.
Within
50 feet of the tracks are Dorsey HS, Foshay Learning Center, Alexander Jr.
Science Center, Orthopedic Medical Magnet School, Central Area LA Middle
School #4, Al-Madinah School, Turning Point School, and three parks: Rancho
Cienega Park, Baldwin Hills Park and Syd Kronenthal Park.
Twelve more schools are within walking distance of the tracks (Weemes,
Bradley, Baldwin Hills, Cienega, Bright, 6th Ave, Coliseum St.,
Virginia Road, 32nd Street, Martin Luther King Jr., Willows and
Echo Horizon), as are numerous more parks.
A street level Expo
Rail Line will drastically increase traffic congestion.
17
north/south streets will be permanently closed, cutting off access to fire
& emergency services
A street level Expo
Rail Line will cause significant noise pollution.
Everyone
who lives, works, goes to school, owns a business or attends church within
one-half mile of these tracks will experience noise
pollution with bells, horns and train noise from 4am to 2am (22
hours a day). Our children will have
their learning environment disrupted.
We are asking the Expo
Line Construction Authority and MTA to build the train underground using the
cost-efficient “cut and cover” method.
WE
MUST ACT NOW:
1. Attend the monthly Expo
Communities United meeting on the 4th
Tuesday of every month at the Baha’i Center 5777 Rodeo Rd, LA, CA 90016
near La Cienega (rides may be available) & go to www.ExpoCommunities.com for more info.
2.
